Carli S.

Today, Carli talks to us about what God has been telling her about fear, how God takes us from glory to glory and the power of kneeling when you pray.

Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
Spiritual growth focus at the moment: Trusting the Lord, and not leaning back on my old ways of understanding.
Profession: I have candy for dinner, way too often.
A one sentence bio of yourself: A girl who loves Jesus and exploring His creation.
When did you first encounter God? Tangibly, in college. I accepted Christ when I was a little girl, but He became real to me in college on a study abroad trip.
What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? Remembering past times that the Lord has come through, trusting that current trials have purpose and that every day is glory to glory.
“Every day is glory to glory.”
Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): Live Fearless by Sadie Robertson and Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst. Both have taught me to gracefully push through fear and feelings of rejection. These have both changed my life and have inspired me to not let my struggles become bigger than who I am. They are both such positive books with sound biblical advice.
Top three essentials: My travel Bible, Starbucks, leggings.
How did God speak to you recently? He has been speaking to me a lot about fear. He has been reminding me that it is a lie and to keep fighting the untruths this world tells us.
Hobby: Writing, hiking, baking. All are equal to me and it would be impossible to put one higher than the other.
Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong: Surrounding yourself with a solid group of Christian friends (seriously); they are my built in therapists and have held me up on the days where I want to fall. Journaling. I take mine with me everywhere. It is my lifeline. I use it as tangible evidence the Lord is always for us. Writing out my prayers and seeing God move has made Him so real to me. Getting on your knees to pray. No, really. It sounds funny, but this year has been a hard year for me. And something about being in a posture of full surrender helps physically and mentally release everything to God.
“Something about being in a posture of full surrender helps physically and mentally release everything to God.”
Favorite person in scripture? Aside from Jesus, and as crazy as it sounds, I am fascinated with Job. I think his suffering has humbled and intrigued me, so much. His life has taught me about the importance of surrendering and God’s redemptive and restoring powers. I can’t get enough of that story.
What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? I want people to see a sweet, compassionate warrior.
Favorite season? Fall
Favorite holiday? Christmas
A dream you have? To visit every continent.
A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: We celebrate half-birthdays, and I will always pass this tradition along. Complete with half cakes and everything.
Question you will ask when you get to heaven? Why can’t we fly?
Thing you want to raise awareness about: Eating Disorders and Depression/Anxiety.
What do you usually do before 9 a.m.? I’m usually getting ready for work, drinking coffee, reading my devotional (I read the Daughters Devo App and HIGHLY recommend, it comes daily and has changed my heart!), listening to a little worship.
What is on your nightstand? Chapstick and lotion. Always.
Define Christianity in a sentence: Jesus Christ rescuing over and over again.
