Today, Nicole, a student and talented musician, shared with us thoughts on her baptism, how God used her boyfriend to reveal Himself in her life, and honesty in our relationship with our Creator.
Biblical inspiration of the moment: A verse that is written on my heart right now is Psalm 38:9: “Lord, my every desire is known to You; my sighing is not hidden from You.”
This helps me feel closer to the Lord and reminds me that I can be truthful with Him about anything and everything I am longing for.
“I can be truthful with Him about anything and everything I am longing for.”
Spiritual growth focus, at the moment: Right now, my spiritual focus is on becoming more intimate with God; feeling closer with Him. To do that, I am using a devotional called The Quest by Beth Moore. I also use a devotional called The Life Of Christ by the staff of Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters.
One sentence bio: Living my life through love, music and faith.
When did you first encounter God? My boyfriend, Wayne, is the reason I found Him. He started having talks with me and bringing me to his church. The first time I ever encountered the true Lord, was at our youth group in February of 2016. It was while we were all worshiping Him in song, and I just felt His love rush over me, and I broke down in tears. I’ll never forget that day, and I am so thankful for my boyfriend bringing me back to God.
“I just felt His love rush over me, and I broke down in tears.”
What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? Well, for one, I got baptized on December 3rd. I’ve devoted my life to Him, and He has brought so much good to my life.
“I’ve devoted my life to Him, and He has brought so much good to my life.”
Currently reading: I got a new study Bible for Christmas, and I have been skimming through each book, every day!
Top three essentials: Things I cannot live without would be: my cross necklace that I was baptized in, my Bible given to me by my boyfriend, and my promise bracelet shared with my boyfriend, which signifies our love for each other through the ups and downs of life.
How has God spoken to you recently? God recently spoke to me, leading me to join the church choir. I get so much joy out of being in our church, surrounded by Him. I always feel His love, as soon as I walk through the doors.
A hobby? Anything music related. I play the alto and tenor saxophone, the acoustic guitar, and I love to sing! Music runs through my veins, and I feel the rhythms through every beat of my heart.
“Music runs through my veins, and I feel the rhythms through every beat of my heart.”
Top tip for staying spiritually strong:
Pray! No matter when, no matter where. I pray every night before bed, but there are times when I just feel too tired. You have to push through that feeling. Talking to the Lord is crucial to having a relationship with Him! Don’t let Satan get between you and Him!
Favorite person in scripture: Mary, the mother of Jesus. No doubt. She was so strong and faithful to God, even when she was frightened.
What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? I hope that when people look at me, they see God in me. I want them to see how He loves everybody no matter what. I want them to see the power of love and being humble.
Favorite season: I can’t decide what my favorite season is. I am stuck between spring and fall. I love the smell of fresh spring air, and the feeling of new birth. But, I also love the feeling of the brisk autumn air and seeing the beautiful leaves falling.
Favorite holiday: My favorite holiday is Christmas. As a kid, I used to only focus on the presents and the candy and Santa Claus– but these last couple years, I am so happy to say I have moved past that stage, and I realize the true meaning and importance of Christmas. It is such a beautiful holiday, celebrating the amazing birth of Jesus. It warms my heart. It is a time to bring together family and friends and to love each other through Him. I feel so blessed!
A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: Every year for Christmas, we get out these 12 ornaments with each gift given from the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Everyone is given an ornament and we sit down and sing the song together, taking turns singing our lyrics.
Question you will ask when you get to heaven: When I get to heaven, I would first ask if my family and significant other are there. My biggest fear is the possibility of someone I love not being able to go to heaven.
Thing you want to raise awareness about: Probably the biggest thing I want everyone to know (believer or not) is that Christianity is not just a religion. It is a relationship with Christ that will change your life. He loves you!
“Christianity is not just a religion. It is a relationship with Christ that will change your life.”
What do you usually do before 9 a.m. (Mon- Fri)? To be honest, I am usually not awake before 9 a.m. That is probably the earliest I would voluntarily wake up. I am not a morning person.
Define Christianity in a sentence: Christianity is a relationship with the One who created you and all things in the universe. It is having a relationship with someone who loves you so much that He sacrificed His Son for you, a sinner. Christianity is a whole new outlook on life and relationships. It is acceptance. It is love.
