Amisha C.

Today, Amisha speaks to us about humility, her music, and how she first felt the Holy Spirit (and her conversion thereafter).
Tell us a bit about how you grew up and your childhood: I grew up in a very toxic household. My parents were always fighting, and I saw a lot of emotional abuse. My mom cared very deeply for me since I was a baby and tried to protect me as much as she could but depression took hold of all my immediate family members. I grew up Hindu/Sikh and was very religious. There were fun times, but many times were anxious and the Lord is recovering me from a lot of this trauma today!
Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: I always love reading Psalm 91. It is so powerful. It reminds me that even if there may be evil surrounding me, nothing can take away the Holy Spirit– I am forever sealed with by the grace of God!
“It reminds me that even if there may be evil surrounding me, nothing can take away the Holy Spirit– I am forever sealed with by the grace of God!”
Spiritual growth focus at the moment: I am focusing a lot on pride. Pride is the root of every sin, and it makes us focus more on ourselves than on the only One who deserves praise: Jesus! I am, every day, praying for God to break down my pride, humble me, and allow my heart to break for what breaks His!
“I am, every day, praying for God to break down my pride, humble me, and allow my heart to break for what breaks His!”
Profession/Mission: I work two jobs. One at a hair salon and one at a Christian clothing store. My goal is to be a singer and makeup artist. My mission will always be to serve the Lord and share His gospel wherever I am! I do not have to wait till the “dream job” comes to do work for the Kingdom. Jesus’s light needs to be in every place and I am determined to be that vessel, if He allows it, in any place I go!
If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be? “Kindly Humbled by the only Humble One.”
When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? It was in February of 2018, when I was 15, and I was attending a funeral service of a boy who passed away at my high school. I felt the Holy Spirit so strongly and began to tell all my family I was going to be a Christian. It was scary, and they were not supportive at first, but I know God comes first and knew in my heart He was what was missing!
“I felt the Holy Spirit so strongly and began to tell all my family I was going to be a Christian.”
How would you describe Jesus? Oh wow, Jesus is sweet, gentle, kind, gracious, comforting, the only Faithful Father, the One truth and One life, the breath in our lungs, the reason we woke up this morning, the Healer, Redeemer, and Savior of the world!
How has your relationship with Him changed you? It has changed the ENTIRE course of my life! I stopped idolizing, I stopped cursing, and I stopped praying to false gods. I began to see the darkness that is in the world and began to strive every day to live a holy life. He has truly put the desire in my heart to seek Him despite my feelings and has made me a more patient, forgiving, modest person! I fall short and I have tough days, but I am reminded always that He goes before me and will discipline and teach me the right way.
What has been the darkest time in your life, and how did you see God in it? My darkest moment was a moment when I did not know Jesus. He knew who I was though and knew one day I would seek Him! I was 10 years old and witnessed a family member of mine who is the closest to me try and take her own life. I cried out and asked why and remember stomping my feet on the hardwood floor wondering how I ended up with a life like this. I remember that moment now in a different way. Jesus spared her life, and I am praying she will give it to Him one day because He was so gracious to her and healed me from that memory being so traumatic!
What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? Fasting. Fasting is biblical and imperative in our walk with Christ. It teaches discipline and patience. The Lord honors it!
Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): Aside from the Bible, New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp! It has heavily convicted me and taught me of Jesus’s grace and discipline. It is teaching me through references to God’s word that we were not meant to carry the burden Jesus took on the cross for us.
Top three essentials: My Bible, my mini Vaseline, pepper spray.
How did God speak to you recently? I did not know if I should continue working two jobs or choose one. I knew one was clearly coming from the Lord but the other one, I feel so comfortable at. I am so afraid of change, but I prayed for God’s will and that if He didn’t want me working at the first one, for Him to remove the desire to stay there. The next day, I completely didn’t want to even go in. I ended up leaving that job and will be working till the end of this month! He provided for me financially, and I get to now work at a place that blasts worship music and met so many Christians who are now my close friends in only three weeks! He is so good.
Hobby: Singing!
Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong: Always read God’s word even when you don’t feel like it, pray without ceasing, and worship through all phases of your life!
Favorite person in scripture? Jesus!
What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? I want them to know that He is transformative, that He can truly change a life for the betterment of us and the glory of Him!
How do you engage with your community? I co-lead worship at my church, frequently go to coffee with friends to really spend quality time with them, and interact with my sisters and brothers in Christ through various social media sites and voice/text messages!
Favorite holiday? Thanksgiving!
A goal you have? Besides serving the Kingdom, I want to be a mom and wife someday if it is God’s will! I also want to sing worship for a prison ministry when I am of age to do so.
A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: My family members are not Christian but within my spiritual family, we do regular Thursday prayer calls and I love it!
Question you will ask when you get to heaven? I am honestly not sure! I think I will be too much in awe of Heaven to even ask any! I will just be praising the Lord.
Things you want to raise awareness about: Suicide, Sex trafficking, and the dangers of manifestation, yoga, and the evil eye that is so prevalent in this generation. I have seen firsthand the evil roots of it coming from a Hindu family.
What does your morning routine consist of? I am a huge germaphobe so I wake up, pray, make my bed, wipe down my bathroom counter with Lysol, take a shower (twice a day), then do my makeup and hair while listening to worship, a podcast, or a friend’s voice memo. Then I eat breakfast, hug my momma, and head out to get coffee and start my day!! I usually read my bible through plans during the day and then read His word at night.
What is on your nightstand? My Bible, prayer journal, devotional, a coaster, a lamp, and my phone!
Define Christianity in a sentence: Laying down your evil desires to gain life abundantly!
