Chrissy R.

Today, Chrissy speaks to us about her desire to impact the beauty industry, underestimating God, healing from difficult moments and learning about boundaries.

Tell us a bit about how you grew up and your childhood: My childhood was a bit of a wild ride. Until the age of 7, I mainly lived with my mom. From what I remember, I was back and forth between my parents, and we moved around quite a bit. When I turned 7 years old, my aunt and uncle took me in and received legal guardianship of me. My mother and father both struggled with addiction from a very young age and were unable to take care of me properly.

Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: Mark 9:24 “…I do believe, help me in my unbelief.” The Passion translation says “…help my little faith.” I think often we underestimate our God. I mean anytime we worry or have fear we are underestimating Him.

“I think often we underestimate our God. I mean anytime we worry or have fear we are underestimating Him.”

Spiritual growth focus at the moment: To truly trust what He is doing/is calling me into and what He has already done.

Profession: US Army Reserve Officer, Makeup Artist and Hairstylist

If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be? “You can still be who you want to be”

Someday, when I finish my book, I pray that anyone who reads it will learn that no matter what you have done, no matter what has been done to you, no matter how old you are, or what you think you are/are not capable of. You can still be who you want to be and more importantly, you can still be who God has called you to be!

When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? I believe my first encounter with God was actually through a friend my mom used to live with when I was really young. They would take me to church and I remember crying when I couldn’t go. I don’t remember what I learned or anything but clearly God had made a way in my heart.

How has your relationship with Him changed you? The verse in Romans 12 says it all. He has transformed me by the renewing of my mind. He has given me an indescribable peace that can only be supernatural. He has showed me how to love and forgive that can only come from Him. He continually teaches me and shows me how trust Him is always the best way.

What has been the darkest time in your life, and how did you see God in it? The darkest time in my life was after my divorce and after my ex-husband passed away. He committed suicide about a year after we separated. His death brought out many things that I had not worked through after the divorce. I was sad, hurt, and angry. Angry at my ex but also angry at God. He is a good God though. He gently helped me heal. He provided when I was depressed and couldn’t work. He opened my eyes and helped me through addiction. He truly is a redeeming Father.

What has helped you grow spiritually in this season?

Two things:

1. Honestly, Covid. I thought prior to Covid that I had a good relationship with God. This season has allowed me to have more time with God. He really showed me that I had to make that choice to grow. It forced me to dig in, trust him more, to strip away the excess.

2. Boundaries. This has been a really hard lesson for me in this season, but the Lord has taught me so much about what happens when we don’t learn what our boundaries are and if we don’t have healthy ones.

Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): Master Potter. Its been teaching me that not only will God make beauty from ashes but that the molding and mending process takes time. It takes time, it can be hard, but its oh so worth it!

Top three essentials:

1.     Bible;

2.     My fur babies (1 dog and 2 cats); and

3.     Skin care.

How did God speak to you recently? He recently sent multiple people who essentially gave me the same word. This has been a scary and daunting word/prophecy, but I truly believe He doesn’t speak something without a way to make it happen!

Lately, He has been sending me so much love, though.

He is so sweet. He sends love all the time, but one way recently is through butterflies. Butterflies are His reminder to me that I have been transformed in Him. I am a new being, and I have wings to fly.

“Butterflies are His reminder to me that I have been transformed in Him. I am a new being, and I have wings to fly.”

Hobby: Music!! Currently *trying * to teach myself guitar. I love to sing!

Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong:

a.     Surround yourself with strong people, leaders and friends. People that will hold you accountable even when its hard.

b.     Be disciplined in your reading of the Word. The answers to all our problems are there! Find what works for you. I started by setting an alarm for how long I had to read… that grew to not wanting to stop.

c.     WORSHIP!!! If I feel weak or battling something, going to Him in praise and worship is always an answer.

Favorite person in scripture? Jesus!!

What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? That He truly loves you for who you are, not what you’ve done or what you can do for Him. That although we should fear Him, He is a gentle father. Not a condemning father. And that He will never and could never leave you. Even though life may not always be easy, He will make a way if we truly allow Him to.

“He will never and could never leave you.”

How do you engage with your community? I love to have meals together. There is no better way to truly spend time getting to know someone. Who doesn’t love food!?

Favorite holiday? Thanksgiving

A goal you have? To write a book and be a women’s leader in the beauty industry to help women heal and overcome their past. I truly believe that Satan has tried to pervert the beauty industry, and my goal and prayer is that God will use me to help women see their beauty in God’s eyes. True beauty is Kingdom beauty and Kingdom beauty is with or without makeup!

“I truly believe that Satan has tried to pervert the beauty industry, and my goal and prayer is that God will use me to help women see their beauty in God’s eyes.”

Question you will ask when you get to heaven? Hug please??

Thing you want to raise awareness about:

1. The Fathers heart/love.

2. Sex trafficking.

3. Suicide awareness/prevention.

What does your morning routine consist of? Right when I wake up, I walk my sweet dog. Then, I make some coffee and go read/ do a devotion on the beach. Then, I workout on the beach! If I don’t do my workout first thing, there is a good chance it won’t happen, HA.

What is on your nightstand? A journal, a Bible, a guitar pick and a candle.

Define Christianity in a sentence: Understanding that our lives have been saved simply because Jesus loves us relentlessly, that He would never leave us and will transform and redeem our lives till the day we see His face in heaven.
