Tell us a bit about how you grew up and your childhood: I grew up under the care of my grandmother and multiple domestic helpers. My parents were working very hard to support the family. I grew up in a non-Christian home, and both my parents were extremely staunch Buddhists. My childhood was mostly doing household chores and studying really hard to get good grades. That was all that really mattered to me until I received Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.

Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

It can be so easy to fall back and to rely on myself, but God’s way is always the best way.

Spiritual growth focus at the moment: I’m working harder to be committed to studying the Word and growing deeper in my relationship with God. I’m learning to trust Him more each day for my family’s salvation.

Profession: Digital Media Specialist at RZIM Asia-Pacific.

If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be? Awakened Soldier

When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? A friend who taught me how to steal actually brought me to church when we were 12. She was also a non-believer. We went to an event in church to hang out with other youths. The spiritual atmosphere completely blew me away, and I started weeping. I went back home to search more about churches and found the sinner’s prayer online. I read it off the computer and received Jesus at home on the spot, there and then.

How has your relationship with Him changed you? Being in relationship with Him has taught me to love myself and others more than what I can ever imagine. I grew up with a turbulent history of depression, anxiety, eating disorders and sexual assault. But His love has empowered me to forgive those who have hurt me and reach out to those whom I’ve hurt to ask for their forgiveness. A deep love and compassion for people has arisen within me, and now, I want the world to know of His love. I want more people to know of this great gift of salvation that He has so kindly given to us.

What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? Waiting on God. I think that can be one of the hardest things to do, especially because I am so used to the idea that I have to work to get something. But God’s grace and ways are higher and better than mine, and I realise that in the waiting, He is doing so much more than what I can ever do in my working. While I am waiting, He is working.

“While I am waiting, He is working.”

Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): I recently read the book of Jeremiah, and I have been so excited at the concept that we are His oracles, anointed to speak words that He has placed within us. We are all called to go and to speak, share, live out the gospel by His Holy Spirit, and that excites me, knowing that this is my primary mission while I’m on earth. I love partnering with God to share His love and word with the world!

Top three essentials: Faith, hope and love.

How did God speak to you recently? God has recently reminded me that what is for me will not elude me.

“God has recently reminded me that what is for me will not elude me.”

Hobby: I love working out. It helps me to relax and to stay focused and on top of my tasks.

Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong: Setting a regular routine of prayer and worship, accountability and reading the Word.

Favorite person in scripture? Peter. I identify with him so much, especially in his failings, presumptions– and yet Jesus extends so much grace and wisdom toward him by calling out what He sees in him instead of simply what is visible to the world. I felt God’s grace over my life each time I fail, and I always am reminded of Peter in the Bible.

“I felt God’s grace over my life each time I fail, and I always am reminded of Peter in the Bible.”

What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? His mercy.

How do you engage with your community? Taking time to get to know them and to love them.

Favorite holiday? Japan! I love how serene and beautiful the country is.

A goal you have? I hope to be able to bring my family to Christ.

A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: Chinese New Year! We visit the homes of relatives and receive red envelopes of money.

Question you will ask when you get to heaven? I think all my questions would’ve been answered by then. What I would be more interested in is what questions I’ll be asked by God.

“What I would be more interested in is what questions I’ll be asked by God.”

Thing you want to raise awareness about: Mental health and the church. I would love to have more conversations with those in ministry and engaging with such topics and initiatives to help support those struggling with mental health issues in our community.

What does your morning routine consist of? Making my bed, brewing a good cup of hot coffee, devotional and prayer time with Abba, workout and skincare routine before I head to work.

What is on your nightstand? Some devotional books, my hair ties and some tea packets.

Define Christianity in a sentence: Transformed by the cross.
