Tell us a bit about how you grew up and your childhood: When I came into this world, my mom was just shy of her 18th birthday and had just lost her husband 3 months prior. So my mom and I grew up together. I spent a lot of time with my Mamaw as my mom went to college and worked hard to provide for me. We didn’t have much, and I remember, when it came to things I wanted, I had to wait and save and wait some more and save and then by some miracle, my mom would surprise me with something great. I loved cheerleading, dance and roller skating. Also, growing up we didn’t go to church often but I always had this yearning in my heart for something and just didn’t know what it was and thankfully encountered a relationship with Jesus when I was 26 yrs old.
Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: Considering the current state of the world, I would have to say Psalm 91 and Jeremiah 1:6. But on most days I cling to Jeremiah 29:11 (it was the first verse I memorized) and Ephesians 3:20 in the MSG Bible.
Spiritual growth focus at the moment: My current spiritual growth focus is fully stepping into confident faith and trusting God at His word. To stop going through the motions and to no longer have complacent faith! This is something God challenged me with back in November and He pressed upon me to get “ready”. Now more than ever, I am finding my faith is most important and I am still learning to trust God at His word, especially right now.
Profession: Currently, I work for an incredible organization, Convoy of Hope. I am the manager of conference partnerships as well as church engagement. I also work with our Convoy: Women program and run the marketing for that side of Convoy. In addition to that, I speak, I am working on a book and I am the host of the YOU ARE ENOUGH Podcast.
If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be? The title would be Everything Will Be OK!
When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? All throughout my life I feel as if I encountered God so many times, I just didn’t know what it was. He was definitely chasing after me, but I didn’t come to know Him and enter into a relationship with Him until I was 26 yrs old. I was living a very “colorful” life and I had hit rock bottom. One morning after a night of partying, the Holy Spirit woke me up, and I knew I had to get to a church service. I went to the biggest church I could find, to be hidden, and I sat up in the balcony. I am sure I smelled like a bar and was still wearing the same makeup from the night before. But I remember during the service, I was so antsy and I was crying all throughout. And the next thing I knew, the altar call was happening, and I couldn’t make my way down fast enough. It was almost like an out of body experience. I hardly remember anything that was said to me, but I will never forget the feeling I had about myself after accepting Jesus. It was obviously life changing.
“I hardly remember anything that was said to me, but I will never forget the feeling I had about myself after accepting Jesus.”
How has your relationship with Him changed you? Oh my goodness…. where do I even start. There are so many things that having a relationship with Jesus has done in my life. I have an incredible husband whom I met just 2 weeks after being saved. I have two amazing daughters and some incredible friends. But most importantly, my relationship with Jesus has allowed me to believe for things I never thought would be possible in my life. It has given me more confidence than ever before and that stems from the fact that I know someone more mighty and powerful than I is guiding and directing my steps. I have someone to lean on during the good times and bad, and I know Jesus always has my back. This takes so much pressure off of me as I am continuing learning and growing in the navigation of life.
“My relationship with Jesus has allowed me to believe for things I never thought would be possible in my life.”
