Camryn G.

Today, Camryn speaks to us about generosity, a book you will want to add to your list, and her journey through the book of Acts.
Camryn G.
Tell us a bit about how you grew up and your childhood: I grew up in a Christian home, my mom was definitely the spiritual leader of our family. Growing up with four sisters who all danced and sang, and it was seriously such a fun childhood, I know we were blessed.
Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: Romans 8, our church is walking through Romans this year, and my friends and I are memorizing Romans 8. Memorization hasn’t been a discipline I’ve been good at, but it has been so life-giving to start digging into it.
Spiritual growth focus at the moment: Generosity; with my time, my words, and my heart. The Lord’s gently teaching me how to surrender these things to Him.
Profession: I work in alumni relations for a large university! And then I’m also writing, blogging, and running a haircare business in my “spare time.”
How do you incorporate your connection with God into your daily, secular work? While I’m at my computer, I can listen to the Word, to sermons, podcasts. I’m able to intake a lot while I’m at work, since the office environment is typically quiet. I know for some that’s not the case, but my desk is a little bit of a safe haven for me.
What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? Community, counseling, and showing up to be present with the Lord and while reading His Word.
Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): When People are Big and God is Small by Edward T. Welch – it’s eye-opening to recognize how many ways we let the approval or the fear of others control us and control our view of God. It’s helping me have a better, more accurate, and more awe-inspiring view of who God is. Which is freeing me from needing or idolizing how the world sees/needs/wants me to be.
Top three essentials: For studying the Word (besides the Bible of course): the blue letter chronological reading plan, the Bible recap podcast, and the Bible Project videos
Favorite person in scripture? Right now, I’m fixated on Paul – my Bible study is going through Acts, and his salvation and journey of sanctification that we get to see through Acts is just so encouraging and convicting.
What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? That He’s so, so kind. All that I am is a gift and a joy because of Him drawing me near, always.
Favorite holiday? Christmas!
A goal you have? To create community through what I do on social media, to help girls feel seen and known.
A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: My husband and love to travel. We’re not big gift-givers, and so we usually just save up and go somewhere new together. It’s my favorite thing we do!
What does your morning routine consist of? During the work-week: get dressed/ready, take my probiotic, pour my coffee, hop in the car. During the weekend: stay in my jammies, have my coffee and my Jesus hour, make brunch with Christian (my husband) and watch our favorite show.
What is on your nightstand? A glass of water, a framed hand-lettering of our vows, a gold lamp, and The Marriage Journal.
Define Christianity in a sentence: Acknowledging our need for God, our holy Creator, who is drawing us back to Himself despite our sin and separation because His love for us is so fierce and gracious.
