Today, Julia R. speaks to us about her focus on Proverbs and wisdom, how she prays for couples who become clients through her business, and her favorite character in scripture, which has no name.

Tell us a bit about how you grew up and your childhood: I grew up in a loving, Christian home. I was the youngest of four siblings, and we were blessed to have an adventurous and busy childhood. Lots of family trips, hikes, sports, music lessons, and love!
Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” Proverbs 10:9
Spiritual growth focus at the moment: I’m studying Proverbs and wisdom!
Profession: Wedding Photographer and Monat Market Partner.
How do you incorporate your connection with God into your daily, secular work? He’s the foundation of my businesses! I pray for my couples, I seek His direction in both businesses; I feel like my faith and work are very intermixed.
“He’s the foundation of my businesses!”
If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be? Somehow, I manage (a little joke on Michael Scott from the Office – but it’s applicable!)
When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? At Awana; I had surrendered my life to him and smiled the whole way home because I felt His presence with me for the very first time.
What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? My discipleship group at church, being in Scripture daily.
Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): In the Bible — I’m reading through Proverbs. Working through and learning about the connection between wisdom and life, versus folly and destruction. Secular wise, I’m reading Permission Marketing by Seth Godin.
Top three essentials: Sleep (lots of it; I have a toddler and baby on the way!), daily devotions, outdoors time.
How did God speak to you recently? Through His Word! Reading through Proverbs, I came across a verse that I have read a million times, yet He showed me a new perspective on it.
Hobby: It took me awhile to realize – but work is my hobby.
Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong: Setting a specific time to be in the Word everyday; without that, it’s easy to forget to to keep saying “in a little bit.” Listening to hymns and worship music in the morning to set your eyes on Him. Spending time in prayer or in the Word before checking your phone or starting the day.
Favorite person in scripture? Is it too cliche if I say Jesus? It’s true! But apart from Him, I’d say the widow who gave two coins to the temple – out of her poverty. Jesus said she gave all she had for Him.
“I’d say the widow who gave two coins to the temple – out of her poverty. Jesus said she gave all she had for Him.”
What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? I hope His love shines through me. That people know they are loved, richly and sacrificially.
How do you leave your mark on your community? Hopefully, by loving them well and committing myself to relationship with them.
Favorite holiday? Christmas and Fourth of July.
A goal you have? To always be able to stay home with my kids!
A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: We don’t have a ton of traditions, but we still do a family vacation every year (and all the kids are grown up). We love our trips together!
Question you will ask when you get to heaven? I think I’ll be too awestruck to speak when I first get there.
Thing you want to raise awareness about: If you mean secular — adopting versus shopping for dogs.
What does your morning routine consist of? Feeding my son breakfast, reading the Word, going on a walk to pray, and checking my email.
What is on your nightstand? About three books that are in queue to read, water, and Chapstick.
Define Christianity in a sentence: A relationship with God, made possible by the forgiveness through the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
