Sonia Q.

Today, Sonia speaks to us about choosing life, how we can’t hide from God and how she was inspired to find her path.
Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: At the moment, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young. But set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
This verse is quite special to me. It’s the verse engraved on my purity ring, and I hold [it] so dear to my heart. It has gotten me through some times where I was doubting God’s plan and being told I was too young to do this or that, when in reality, for God there is no age. You can make a difference anytime, anywhere, as long as you have Him.
Spiritual growth focus at the moment: Right now, my focus is on completely trusting God, in all aspect of my life. I have abandoned my blog to Him, my work, my school, but one thing that I want to hold onto is my future, my relationships and kids. I really want to get married and have children, but since I’m currently single with no one on the horizon, I know that this is God’s way of saying “Hey, give it to me, it will all fall into place, when it’s the right time.” But as a control freak, I have such a hard time to just let God hold the pen, but I know that it will be so worth it, when His plan is unveiled!
Profession: I am currently in college, studying to become a Medical Office Assistant. But I work on-call at an Elementary School, as a replacement educator, teacher’s aid, and tutor! I also have my blog, which I love so much and hope to be able to keep growing!
A one sentence bio of yourself: Christian, blogger, Canadian, bookworm, music enthusiast, chocoholic.
When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? I was raised in a Christian home, so I’ve always “known” about God, Jesus and the Bible. Although, when I was 18 years old, I had recently gotten out of a relationship, and I was so lost. I didn’t know what I was going to do in September for college, (I had already taken a year off), I had just quit a job I liked because I had hurt my wrist and couldn’t do the work anymore. The summer went by so quickly and friends were returning to school and work, and I was just stuck, not knowing what I would be doing for my future. So, I remember reading book after book, non-Christian books, fiction, romance, etc. But then, I finally started reading the ton of Christian books I had bought throughout the years but never read. I think I read like 4 to 5, in 2 months. The words of these books seem to have been written for me. I was inspired to do back to church and start reading my Bible, again. I finally learned as an adult that God loves me. He cherishes me, and He forgives all my sins and wants me to follow Him. So, I started praying and talking to God, and I finally abandoned my life to Him, and He showed me His amazing love, grace and forgiveness. Over the next few weeks, everything changed, and things started falling into place.
What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? The Bible, of course! But also, other books. There are a ton of amazing books, podcasts, blogs and vlogs out there to help you understand more a topic, and get some research; it’s awesome! I always said that reading the Bible can be intimidating. It’s a huge book, small writing and confusing words! But a tip to get started is find a topic that interests you, then start a Bible study, or listen to podcast and read books. They will write verses and stories of the Bible, and then, when you finish the chapter, grab your Bible and check out the verse they mentioned!
Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): I just finished reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan, and that book is a huge eye opener! It was so good, Mr. Chan writes the truth, and he tells it like it is. I am currently reading Welcome to Adulting by Johnathan Pokluda and Kevin McConaghy, it’s really good! It shows a Christian perspective on adulting and how to navigate faith, friendships, finances and the future– it’s a good book.
Top three essentials: Music, chocolate and books!
How did God speak to you recently? God has been speaking to me through different sources to trust Him and His plan. He said it through a book I was reading. He used my sister-in-law to show it to me, through an app devotional I was doing. All in the matter of five days, and I just sat there in awe, knowing I had something to work on because God was showing me. I had issues to trust Him and trust that He knew what was best.

“I had issues to trust Him and trust that He knew what was best.”

Hobby: Reading is my favorite thing to do but writing has always been a close second, and especially now, with my blog, writing is a passion of mine, and I can actually use it to glorify God! My mom showed me how to cook when I was growing up, and I’m so thankful as cooking and baking are amazing skills and things I love to do. I started working out, and even though I’m not super sportive and a gym freak, I am enjoying the process, and I love that I’m getting healthy and more in shape.

Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong: I think my top three are basic: Pray! Communication is key in every relationship, so even with God praying and talking to Him is super important.
Second: Reading His Word! The Bible is our life guide, and God wrote it, so we know how to live out our faith and know how to be more like Jesus.
Third: Surround yourself by Godly people! Get a church family, get some Godly friends and youth groups, and just avoid all the influence of the media and our society.
Favorite person in scripture? One of my favorite people from the Bible, has got to be Jonah. I know it’s silly, but I remember being little and hearing the story, imaging how big the fish must have been! It’s so funny, but that story stayed in my mind for so long, I kept thinking my goodness, God will do anything to get someone to fulfill the work of the Lord. God is incredible, and it just amazes me! It always shows that you can’t hide from God. He always knows where you are and what you will do next, so follow Him!
What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? That God loves you, no matter what, God can forgive you, if you repent. But mainly, that you are never too young to start making a difference and start doing God’s work!

“You are never too young to start making a difference and start doing God’s work!”

Favorite season? FALL! I love fall, the crisp cool air, leaves that are falling and beautiful colours, at this time of year our world changes and becomes so colorful and beautiful, and it gets ready for winter. I also am a big fan of fall wardrobes! The boots, leggings, scarfs and plaid! That’s basically my entire wardrobe!
Favorite holiday? Christmas! For obvious reason, but I love the snow! I’m from Canada, so we get a ton of snow! So, you are driving during the night and you see the snow and all the gorgeous lights, it’s just amazing! I love seeing my entire extended families and friends during the holidays and everyone is so joyful, and all dressed up!
A dream you have? One of my main dreams is to get married and have children! But another super important dream, I’ve always wanted to open a coffee and a bookstore, mixed together! I don’t know if it will ever happen, but maybe one day.
A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: My immediate family (parents and siblings) aren’t too big on tradition, me, on the other hand, I love it! But one thing I loved ever since I was a little girl was during the holidays, all the Christmas parties because I get to see my aunts, uncles and cousins. I have a huge extended family; my dad are nine kids and my mom are five, so it’s just awesome being surrounded by a huge family during the holidays.
Question you will ask when you get to heaven? I honestly wonder if I will be able to speak at all! I’ll probably be so speechless, but I think I would ask, why did God choose me?
Thing you want to raise awareness about: Pro-life! Say no to abortion. There are so many other ways to prevent pregnancy and other options and solutions if you do get pregnant, but abortion should not be one of those. Abortion is taken so lightly nowadays, and hearing that being a super easy solution hurts me, it physically hurts me. I wish I could be able to help all those mothers who are pregnant and scared and don’t know what to do, but God gave you this blessing, and He saw the future, and He has an amazing plan for mothers and babies.

“I wish I could be able to help all those mothers who are pregnant and scared and don’t know what to do, but God gave you this blessing, and He saw the future, and He has an amazing plan for mothers and babies.”

What do you usually do before 9 a.m.?I’m an early riser (well, early enough *wink*) I have my alarm at 7am (slowly starting to get up earlier and earlier, every week); I usually stay in bed for a bit, response to text/emails, check my social medias. I then get up, go downstairs, eat, and talk to my parents before they leave for work. I work usually evenings, and some days, so I go back up to my room, get dress, clean up and start my school!
What is on your nightstand? I have a lamp, a tissue box, my sound machine (I need noise to sleep!), I also have a clock radio and my phone is turned off, charging during the night! But I always, always have a book on my night stand, currently it is Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriary.
Define Christianity in a sentence: Christianity is a personal and intimate relationship with our amazing Father in Heaven!
