Lucy C.

Today, Lucy speaks to us about how God can still speak to us through friends who are far, how He notices us in our time of need, and her interest in setting people free from eating disorders.

Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: There are so many life-giving passages to chose from– it is hard to just think of one. However, Proverbs 4:10-14 completely bowled me over the other day and left me feeling revived.

Hear, my son, and accept my words,
    that the years of your life may be many.
I have taught you the way of wisdom;
    I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
When you walk, your step will not be hampered,
    and if you run, you will not stumble.
Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;
    guard her, for she is your life.
Do not enter the path of the wicked,
    and do not walk in the way of the evil.

Spiritual growth focus at the moment: I need to learn to trust more in the fact that God has a unique and special plan for my life. I often doubt this fact, and it can leave me feeling purposeless and also prevent God from really working through me.

Profession: I work in education.

A one sentence bio of yourself: My name means light, like a light. I am quiet but also bold, warm and comforting.

When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? My first real encounter of God was when I was 10 years old. I was on a school camp, which I was not enjoying at all. I felt very homesick and alone. One night, I cried out to God as I was drowning in sadness. At that very moment, I was overcome with the most extraordinary peace. I felt like I was being hugged by God, and I probably was. I will never forget that moment as long as I live.

What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? Reading the Lord’s Word has been my greatest source of growth. It never ceases to amaze me how real and personal His Word is.

“It never ceases to amaze me how real and personal His Word is.”

Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): At the moment, I am not reading anything other than the Bible, itself. I find fresh revelation every day. It is amazing how you can read one verse several times, and each time, it can speak to you in a different way.

Top three essentials: I hope that living creatures count because my little fur baby is vitally important to me, after the Bible, of course. I also cannot go a day without moisturizer, got to keep the face and spirit hydrated at all times.

How did God speak to you recently? A girl that I went to school with had a prophetic dream about me the other day. She spoke such wisdom into my life that I was left feeling so humbled by the greatness of God. I have not seen this girl in over 8 years in fact we do not even live in the same country anymore, yet God could still use her to bring His light and love into my life.

“I have not seen this girl in over 8 years in fact we do not even live in the same country anymore, yet God could still use her to bring His light and love into my life.”

Hobby: I love all things creative. I enjoy drawing, writing and a bit of photography, every now and then.

Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong:

1. Find a community of believers: It is so important to have fellow believers to help carry your load and to celebrate your victories with. I am an introvert and so I often shy away from social engagements. It has been a challenge for me to make myself vulnerable to others, but am so grateful that I have.
2. Read the Lords word: I try my best to read the Lords word every day, as it is so grounding and full of His love. He can really speak to us through His word all we need to do is be open to receive it.
3. Prayer: God desires relationship with Him, which requires communication. Keep talking to Him because He loves hearing from you.
Favorite person in scripture? Jesus, of course, but I have also been inspired by Hannah.
What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? I want them to learn that He is love and that He brings healing, life and true joy.
Favorite season? I enjoy all seasons because after all variety is the spice of life, but I find transitional seasons the easiest to live in so its a toss up between autumn and spring.
Favorite holiday? I love going to the sea. The ocean is so restorative and reminds me of how glorious God is.

“I love going to the sea. The ocean is so restorative and reminds me of how glorious God is.”

A dream you have? My dream is to set young women free from body image dissatisfaction and eating disorders through the love of God.
A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: We have lunch together every Sunday. This keeps us united and leaves me feeling so loved and valued at the start of every new week.
Question you will ask when you get to heaven? Wow, I have never thought about this before! I have a feeling that I will be so consumed by the love of God that I will be completely speechless.
Thing you want to raise awareness about: I am passionate about mental health and seeing people set free from eating disorders. I would love to create more awareness around eating disorders and the stigma which surround them. I would also like to break down the ideas surrounding beauty and perfection.
What do you usually do before 9 a.m.? I am a early bird, so I am normally awake before 6. The first thing I do is pray and read Gods word. I then go to the gym and eat breakfast, of course.
What is on your nightstand? Several unread book, my gum guards (I am a notorious teeth grinder), the Bible and my prayer journal.
Define Christianity in a sentence: I can do better. I can define it in three words: Love, Freedom and Joy.
