The Seven Days of Gratitude: Day 3 (Literacy)
Welcome to The Seven Days of Gratitude. This has been a longstanding tradition at Modern Witnesses. It’s one of my favorites, and I love when our Canadian friends join in (even though their Thanksgiving happens earlier). Each day, we will name the category, and you can pick something from that category to share or reflect on that you have been grateful for over this past year. You can start this challenge at any time and do it in any order. The hope is to embrace gratitude each day and reflect on our many blessings. This challenge always blesses me. I love when you share in the comments, or, the more popular way of sharing, by social media. Make sure to tag us. We love reposting and you can see prior years in the highlights.
With all that said– let’s continue with Day 3: Literacy

Usually, we don’t think about this too much— but we are reading this. If we couldn’t read this or anything else, we would be limited in the information we could seek. We would be left to trust others and the information they give us. Most of our audience is women. In some places in the world, women’s literacy is low. We have the privilege of reading these letters and having them mean something. We can learn from human voice preserved over centuries. These are not the dark ages for us. We can find out for ourselves.
Have you ever reflected on how amazing it is that you can read? You can learn on your own. You can research, compare, check, write and expand your mind. You can always be learning.
What is the most interesting thing you learned or read this past year?

This year, some of my favorite reads included: Your Body Already Knows by Nidhi Pandya, Joy Prescriptions by Tiffany Moon and Flamingo Estate’s The Guide to Becoming Alive by Richard Christiansen. Also on the list were Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen, Chaos by Tom O’Neill, Originals by Adam Grant, and The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins.
Thank you for being a reader here. We do not take that for granted!
