The Seven Days of Gratitude: Day 2 (The Spiritual)

Welcome to Day 2 of The Seven Days of Gratitude.

This has been a longstanding tradition at Modern Witnesses. Each day, we will name the categories and you can pick something from that category to share or reflect on that you have been grateful for over this past year. You can start this challenge at any time and do it in any order.

The hope is to embrace gratitude each day and reflect on our many blessings. This challenge always blesses me. I love when you share in the comments, or, the more popular way of sharing, by social media. Make sure to tag us. We love reposting and you can see prior years in the highlights.

Day 2 is all about the spiritual.

This year, I was partiularly blessed by old hymns. There is something incredible about an old classic hymn playing. The sound of people filling a church with that music or even having it in the background as instrumental blesses me.

Learning the background of old hymns and the stories of faith that inspired them is extra special. The Daily Grace Co. has these gorgeous hymn volumes (this is not an ad!). I have loved reflecting on the hymns in my daily walk, in addition to scripture. As things get crazier and crazier, I find a strong thread drawing me back to all things traditional and nostalgic. This year, hymns were a big part of that for me.

The Daily Grace Co. has a beautiful post here where they write: “These hymns have withstood the test of time, in part, because of the magnificent testimonies that have been given to the authors. Through the studying of these hymns, we are able to watch the hand of God fervently at work through time on behalf of man so that His glory is made known.”

I was walking through the Times Square train station (it’s huge, if you aren’t from NYC), and I heard at a distance— a flute playing a hymn I know from childhood in Spanish. As I went up the stairs, I started singing it to myself, and it made me smile. We remember the words that remind us that He is ever present.
