Seven Days of Gratitude: Day 3

The Seven Days of Gratitude are an annual tradition and gratitude challenge for us at MW. We have seven days leading up to Thanksgiving (U.S.) where we reflect on different themes that help us reflect on the things we can be grateful for. Some are obvious and some are a bit more random. I hope you join us on this journey of reflecting on gratitude. You can journal it or share with us on social media @modernwitnesses_ on Instagram. Tag us or do #SevenDaysofGratitude. As always, we are grateful to God for you and everything you are doing to reflect His light.

Day 3 theme:

Lessons from the seasons and nature

This year, Lydia MIllen released Evergreen: Discover the Joy In Every Season. Her book is a refreshing reminder of the gifts and beauty we can find in every season. The almanac and people like Beth Kempton also encourage me to see the gifts of the seasons. (See Beth Kempton’s Writing Winter Sanctuary and Calm Christmas podcast).

Those who know me, know that I love spring and fall. Right now, I am enjoying and being inspired by the release that autumn brings. Nature slows down and teaches us order, purpose and work ethic, while also reminding us of renewal, rest and strength.

This year, I saw many little park injured squirrels get better and regain strength. Their resilience was something that inspired me. Nature reflects God’s care and goodness. It reminds me that He cares for me.

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Matthew 6:26

One of the places that took my breath away this year was Oyster Bay, New York. It is on my list of happy places. The water, the trees, the beauty of the little crabs on the sand. It gifted me a sense of wonder.

What seasonal gifts have you received this year? Please share with us!

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
