Seven Days of Gratitude: Day 1
The Seven Days of Gratitude are an annual tradition and gratitude challenge for us at MW. We have seven days leading up to Thanksgiving (U.S.) where we reflect on different themes that help us reflect on the things we can be grateful for. Some are obvious and some are a bit more random. I hope you join us on this journey of reflecting on gratitude. You can journal it or share with us on social media @modernwitnesses_ on Instagram. Tag us or do #SevenDaysofGratitude. As always, we are grateful to God for you and everything you are doing to reflect His light.

Day 1 theme:
Mentorship // Coaching
This year was one of many shifts for me. I started exploring coaching. I did individual coaching with an executive coach for my job, and started doing group coaching in different settings. I am a member of Dr. Edie Wadsworth’s Life Mentoring School, Erwin McManus’ The Arena and Bonnie Gray’s Soul Care School. I also had the gift of being invested in through pre-marital counseling with a pastor friend.
Finding wisdom in coaching has changed a lot for me. It has changed the way I approach my work and colleagues, and also, the way I approach problem solving and communication. One thing I have learned is that our emotions need a story to go off of, and we are the ones responsible for that story through our mindset.
Maybe, you are thinking– hey, I didn’t do coaching this year, but I truly believe mentors and coaches are everywhere. Before I joined The Arena, I was definitely coached and shaped by Erwin McManus’ sermons and books. There is a lot out there that is free (like sermons on YouTube or podcasts) or minimal investment, like books. I recently heard Edwin Arroyave on the Mind Shift Podcast talk about how Grant Cardone and Ed Mylett’s books coached him when he was starting out.
There are also people in our communities that serve as mentors. Maybe a family member or friend or a community member who invests in you. Maybe you are a mentor. There are mentors all around.
Take time to reflect, journal, share on socials– what or who has mentored you in this past year and who are you grateful for?
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
