A Bad Day Doesn’t Equal A Bad Life
By: Brittany Maher
Have you ever had the kind of day when nothing seems to go right? Maybe you got into a bad argument with your spouse or family member. Maybe it’s a bunch of little things that keep adding up:
- You got zero sleep because your baby was teething.
- Your old phone keeps freezing up.
- You hit every stoplight while running late.
- You spilled your coffee on your new shirt.
- Your day doesn’t go as planned.
These are typically minor issues (and what some call “first-world problems”). But small frustrations can add up, especially if we aren’t taking our frustration to God.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but here’s a friendly reminder: a bad day doesn’t equal a bad life.
Don’t allow the Enemy to make you feel like you have a horrible life. The Enemy’s goal is to change your mindset from blessed to stressed. But you, my dear, have so many blessings.
He wants you to see everything through a lens of frustration and look for problems, almost like an inspector looking for deficiencies. This is no way to live your life. If you look for problems, then guess what? That’s exactly what you’ll find. But the opposite is true too: if you look for blessings, you will find them.
So what if you decided that a bad day doesn’t equal a bad life and that tomorrow will be better? When you wake up in the morning, what if you said to yourself that “this is the day that the Lord has made; let’s rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24 csb).
If you start to have one of those days and catch yourself going into “inspector mode,” check yourself. Challenge yourself to count your blessings. Pray and remind God of all the things He has blessed you with. Name three to start, and I bet your day will begin to turn around.
And if all else fails, remember: this, too, shall pass.
