Madysen F.

Today, Madysen speaks to us about relying on God through uncertainty, the C.S. Lewis book that is speaking to her and peace in the middle of the storm. Thank you, Madysen!

Tell us a bit about how you grew up and your childhood: I grew up in a Christian, conservative home with amazing parents. My parents taught my sister and I, from a young age, to pursue the Lord with all of our hearts. My parents raised us to love God, family, and America. They did this through leading by example. For instance, both of my parents have been involved as volunteers at our local church and involved in local and national politics for my whole life. Through this example, I have come to know the Lord and desire to serve Him in all I do.

Inspiring biblical passage of the moment: “You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again.” (Psalms 71:20-21)

Spiritual growth focus at the moment: Right now, I am focusing on getting involved in a church community and fellowshipping more with members of the body of Christ.

Profession/Mission: My mission is to serve the Lord in all I say and do.

If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be? If I wrote a memoir, the title would probably be: “Peace in the Storm”

When did you first encounter God and how did you encounter Him? I first encountered Jesus when I was six years old. I was lying in bed talking to my dad and asked him how I could accept Jesus. I wanted to get to know Jesus because I had seen how he had worked through the life of my parents. Even in bad situations, my parents could still find peace because they had a relationship with Jesus. In my bedroom, my dad led me in a short prayer, and I accepted Christ.

“Even in bad situations, my parents could still find peace because they had a relationship with Jesus.”

How would you describe Jesus? I would describe Jesus as not only the son of God, but also as my friend and protector.

How has your relationship with Him changed you? My relationship with Jesus has brought me continual peace throughout so many hard seasons in my life. Growing deeper in my relationship with Him has helped me to find confidence and overcome the anxiety that I had for most of my life.

“My relationship with Jesus has brought me continual peace throughout so many hard seasons in my life.”

What has been the darkest time in your life, and how did you see God in it? The darkest time in my life definitely has been my health journey. Although I am not all the way through it, I am slowly getting my life back (thank you Jesus!). The hardest part of this journey occurred in October of 2020. I was so physically ill that I had to come home from college and move back in with my parents. Today, I know that I was dealing with chronic Lyme disease and hypothyroidism, but I went a long time without a diagnosis. By the grace of God, I was finally led to a doctor who tested my thyroid and tested me for Lyme disease. Now, I am seeking treatment. Throughout this process, God has shown me that I can fully rely on Him. When I felt the most alone, I would turn to God’s Word and listen to worship music. Doing this brought me peace when nothing else could.

What has helped you grow spiritually in this season? Connecting with other like-minded believers has helped me to experience so much spiritual growth! It is so important.

Just read/currently reading (and what has it taught you?): I just read The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. This book has taught me that there are so many tactics the Enemy will try and use to tempt believers. Sometimes, he will even try to use things that look good in order to send us down the wrong path.

Top three essentials: Mascara, iced tea, and my Bible.

How did God speak to you recently? God recently spoke to me about switching churches. Although I had no problems with the last church I attended, I am very excited about becoming a member at my new church.

Hobby: My favorite hobby would probably be digital art. I love using procreate on my iPad to draw.

Top three practical tips for staying spiritually strong: Tip 1: Get involved in a local church; Tip 2: Surround yourself with like-minded, Christian friends; and Tip 3: Read your Bible and commune with God every day.

Favorite person in scripture? My favorite person in Scripture would probably be Esther. Even when she was afraid, she trusted in God and obeyed his commands. I aspire to live like her.

What do you want people to learn about God when they look at you? I want people to learn that God can help them through any struggle, and that He uses all things for the good of those who love Him.

How do you engage with your community? I engage with my community by attending church, participating in local politics, and working for a local business.

Favorite holiday? My favorite holiday is Christmas!

A goal you have? My goal for 2022 is to read through the entire Bible.

A special tradition you and your family engage in or keep: My family and I always watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Christmas Eve.

Question you will ask when you get to heaven? “How did I do in serving you on Earth, Lord?”

Thing you want to raise awareness about: I want to raise awareness of human rights issues, specifically human trafficking and abortion.

What does your morning routine consist of? In the mornings, I wake up, wash my face, fix breakfast and make my coffee, read my Bible, and then finish by doing my hair and makeup.

What is on your nightstand? I keep medicines, pens, a phone charger, and books on my nightstand.

Define Christianity in a sentence: Christianity is the only religion where God came down to earth to become a man.

  1. Enjoyed this! Love how you shared how much your parents’ walks with the Lord influenced your own, Madysen. It’s a great reminder to parents that our littles are watching. May God guide you and continue to water your faith. 🤍
